Dancer Photo Shoot Information

Dance Shoots Are Fun!!

These dancers are having a blast!!!

Some dancers create "reels" -- videos of themselves dancing, usually in a dance studio, to choreography they do themselves, set to music they downloaded off the internet.  But there are significant obstacles to overcome with reels.  A reel a dancer produces themself seldom looks as snazzy as a professionally produced reel, but a pro reel can cost thousands of dollars to shoot, and even more to properly edit.  Then there is the issue of securing the rights to the music being danced to, to avoid copyright infringement.  Lastly, how do you show your reel to a potential employer?  Youtube?  Great idea, assuming that the choreographer you want so badly to work with has an internet connection at the exact moment he has a few seconds to look at your work . . .

What a hassle.

We create our dance photos in a real live dance studio (which is why we can't shoot on Saturdays -- they have classes on Saturdays!).

The studio is:

  • Equipped with a sprung floor, so you're not jumping and landing on concrete or asphalt, either of which could cause an injury.

  • Kept at a temperature appropriate for dancers dressed in tights and leotards.

  • We bring our studio lighting and backdrops with us, so you will be properly lit, to make sure you look as good in your photos as you will on stage.

During my careers in professional entertainment and college teaching, I've spent considerable time around dancers.  I know what good dance photos should look like.  I understand the way a dancer should look when frozen in time in a photograph.  I have photographed many dancers, and can usually catch the exact moment in one try.  If you can do it, I can photograph it.

Come shoot with me.  You'll have a blast. . .

What we will do:

  • We will shoot for up to 4 hours, between 100 and 300 images.

    • You can change costumes as many times as you wish.

    • Remember the amount of time it takes you to change is part of the shooting time, so the more you change costumes, the less time you'll have in front of the camera.

  • We will shoot against both a white and a black background.

  • We will use high-powered, professional studio strobes to light you properly, just as you would be lit on a stage.

What you will get:

  • We will choose the very best, which will give you 50 to 150 images to make your final choice from.

  • We will upload those images to a private gallery.

  • You get to choose up to 20 of those images for final processing.

  • After you choose your final images:

    • We'll process them

    • We'll size them so they'll print at 8½x11

    • We'll burn them to a CD or DVD.

    • We'll include an official release allowing you to:

      • Print them

      • Use them on the web

      • Or use them in any other way you wish.

Price: $600.00 per session.

There is a $250.00 non-refundable deposit required to hold the date, due when you make your appointment.  The balance is due at the end of the shoot.  We accept cash and all major credit cards.  We do not accept checks.

Please note the following important things:

1.  To make sure everyone is comfortable and has a great time, ladies are encouraged to bring a friend.  Be aware that friends may be asked to hold a reflector or comb your hair, or help in other ways.

2.  Black costumes will blend into the black background.  There is no way around that.  When we shoot against the black background, please wear light colored or brightly colored costumes.

3.  Wear makeup, just as you would for the stage.  It is extra important to powder your face.  Dancers perspire, and that creates a shine on the face that is unflattering and impossible to remove later.

4.  Bring music you like to listen to.  I'll have speakers we can plug your device (phone, iPod, etc.) up to.  If you don't bring your own music to listen to, I can play what I have -- 50's & 60's rock and roll.

5.  We reserve the right to use any photograph we shoot for our advertising purposes, as we deem necessary.  This includes, but is not limited to use on our website, Facebook Artist page, Instagram, Google +, or Flickr.  Prints and digital versions may be used in, but not limited to, our studio, brochures, posters, and/or other media.
